SCENARIOS

A: Exploration With the Last War finally wrapped up there's a lot of out of work soldiers. Fortunately, adventuring's a good business these days. From ruins of the ancient goblin empire to mysterious Gatekeeper sites and draconic observatories. Bring back a good haul to keep the lights on another month, or find that mystical doodad you've been hired to bring home.

B: Cloak and Dagger Just because blood isn't being spilled on battlefields anymore doesn't mean that the hostilities of the Last War have ended. Nations and rulers still seek to outmaneuver and undermine each other and you're wrapped up in it! Are you skulking the shadows, chasing down spies or maybe something different like infiltrating a fancy ball.

C: Murder! Or anywhere else, really. As much danger as there is from the inhuman creatures roaming the world, sometimes regular old mortals do a good enough job of killing each other off. Either way a body's been found and you're just the person to solve the case! But there's always complications with these things, aren't they? Maybe the City Watch is after your friend's head for this one.

D: Fly the Friendly Skies: Airships are a great way to get around. Crafted from buoyant soarwood and propelled by a bound elemental in its huge crystal ring. They make a good base of operations for adventurers but they're also available to book for a quick trip. Better make sure everything stays in working order though, those elementals can get cranky if their homes are smashed. Keep an eye out for dragons too.

E:The Lightning Rail Robbery: It may be landbound but the lightning rail is probably just as ubiquitous as a travel option as their airborne cousins. If you can picture a class cross country train, then you've got the right idea for this bad boy. Hopefully taking this thing means a peaceful trip but there's always somebody out there looking to stage a daring robbery and get those goodies the passengers are carrying. No better time for a hero or several to step up.

E: Town Defense: Setting out on adventures isn't the only situation you're liable to find monsters in. Sometimes the monsters come to you. Everything from Valenar raiding parties to wandering beasts. Even big cities aren't safe as they all have their shadowy corners and mysterious passages and sometimes dark things creep out of them and onto the streets.

F: The Marketplace: We couldn't leave off the general mingle logs. There's all kinds of shopping to be done from the basic necessities to magical items and equipment and we can't forget the festivals that always go on in these places. If you want, there's a list available out there.

G: Anything Else Good old wild card options! Like I said, it's a D&D setting and open for whatever you want so go nuts for kicks.

And if you want a resource to do some reading, there happens to be a wiki out there.

Somebody dropped a map on the ground.

That's the first thought running through his head when he inspects the piece of canvas in his head. The second was musing on how little good a map probably did this deep in the Reaches, the endless rows of trees stretching off in every direction with branches high and thick enough to dim the sunlight from up above.

The next is to wonder what could have led somebody to discard it nonetheless. Ambush? No, there aren't any signs of a fight here. Inspecting closer, there's trampled underbrush leaving a clear trail leading off into the woods. Seems like somebody took off in pursuit of something. Bad sign, considering his own reasons for being here. The woods here in particular being home to a Gatekeeper seal, attracting creatures of Khyber to it. If somebody else came to deal with them....

Stuffing the map into a pocket, he gives a short whistle to toward the trees before taking off at a quick run, following the trail left behind.

Of course, the forces of madness are already at the Seal. Squat, multilimbed creatures brandishing simple, worn weapons like clubs and rusty daggers. The grotesque creatures hopping around and jabbing at the stone ruins making up the site.

"--and as soon as I hit the ditch the horse shook free and bolted," The addled farmer finished, gesturing out into the field running along the winding, dirt road. Conner follows his eyes, and lo and behold, there's the horse, nibbling on some wheat out in the distance - still rigged up in all it's gear.

"I gotcha," Kon nods from where he kneels in the dirt, inspecting the farmer's overturned wagon. It was ... y'know, a little banged up from tumbling into the ditch, but the wheels hadn't cracked and the neither axel had broken.

"You might need to replace a couple boards when you get home, but you're actually in pretty good shape here." Conner says, standing up and stretching out in anticipation of some heavy lifting. "You go grab that bad boy out there, and I'll get you back on the road, okay?"

The farmer blinks, looking from the Conner, to the overturned cart, and back again. Conner's a big guy, but he doesn't look that big. "A-are you sure? You can wait until--"

Conner cuts him off, waving away the idea. "It's fine. Seriously, no problemo." He unsheathes his sword and sticks it into the dirt on the road side and lays his shield down next to it. "Trust me, I've got this."

The farmer starts moving as Conner walks around to the front of the cart, but he still seems unsure about all this as he looks back over his shoulder ... just in time to see Conner grab a hold of the shafts at the front of the cart and pull it clear of the mud with one, solid heave. It wasn't exactly a piece of cake - there's some visible strain on the young paladin's face as he pulls the cart back onto the road - but he did it.

"My gods," The farmer breathes.

Kon throws the startled man a wink over his shoulder and gives him a thumbs up, which seems to remind the farmer that he's got a horse to wrangle.
